The Alchemist — My Most Loved, Most Underlined Book. Here’s Why.

The Alchemist is a story about a young shepherd who sets out to find a hidden treasure, only to realize the real treasure is discovering who he is and what he’s capable of. Along the way, he learns that when you truly want something and go after it with your heart, the universe finds a way to help you get there.

In summary, It’s about faith, fear, timing, and the quiet magic that happens when you finally trust your own path.

Here are some of my favourite quotes and what they mean to me.

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
I love this one because it’s so simple, yet it captures the essence of hope. I honestly can’t imagine what life would feel like if I stopped imagining more for myself. The “possibility” is what keeps everything alive.

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
I used to roll my eyes at this line until I started noticing how true it feels once you actually start moving toward something you care about. It’s both a promise and a challenge: to believe you’re not foolish for wanting something deeply. For me, it’s a reminder that faith and effort go hand in hand.

“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are.”
Love, in this book, isn’t just romance. It’s love for people, purpose, and life itself. For me, when I’m genuinely invested in something or someone, I naturally want to show up better. It’s that quiet push that turns comfort into purpose.

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself.”
Every time I read this, it hits differently. Fear keeps us from the very experiences that are meant to shape us. Most of the time, the fear of what might happen is so much heavier than what does.

“The simple things are also the most extraordinary, and only the wise can see them.”
We live in such a fast world that it’s easy to forget how beautiful the ordinary can be.

Love never keeps a person from pursuing his destiny. If he abandons that pursuit, it’s because it wasn’t true love.”
An unpopular opinion I hold: real love lets you be. It gives you space to grow and still welcomes you back. The right kind of love doesn’t trap; it trusts.

“One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.”
This one is a soft reminder that I don’t have to become anyone else to be loved. The people meant for me will see me, as I am, and love me anyway.

It’s my most loved, most read, and most underlined book because somehow, it always finds a new way to speak to me.
Maybe it’ll find you too.

With Love,

Tilly
